There is no doubt that we are in the midst of difficult times. Times that do not distinguish between who you are, what you look like, how much money you make, what you own, or where you live. People the World over are facing the same challenges and our anxiety levels are high, as we face uncertainty and confusion.
The phrase I keep hearing is, 'I feel like my life is on hold until this all over'.
But wait....what if we don't have to wait for it to all be over?
What if we can not only carry on, and be productive, but also thrive in this situation?
We can. Hear me out.
It all lies in keeping emotional control. In being able to master our thoughts and emotions and how we ultimately respond to them. Understanding that we don't have to believe every thought we have, and we don't have to act on every emotion we feel is a powerful way to take back control of our mind and lives.
There are many what if's that are clouding many of our minds, we read things, we watch videos, the news is throwing us constant updates, some which serve us, and some which give us an overwhelm of information. It's all too easy to get caught up in an anxiety loop, that leads us nowhere and wastes much of our day.
Whilst it's okay to give ourselves time to process things and do a little self care, if we are in this for a few weeks or more then we need to establish a new routine that will not only help anchor us, but will also help us gain the fulfillment we usually get in other ways.
Many of us will need to start becoming accountable for ourselves, without the help of others we had previously relied on, not being able to go to the gym, for example, shouldn't stop us from being active and becoming our own personal trainers. By learning new and different ways we can train at home, get our energy levels up and stay healthy, can be an exciting learning opportunity and we may find ourselves fitter and more motivated than ever before because we come to realize how powerful we are when it comes to the tone we set for our own lives.
Can we see this as an opportunity to grow? To become closer to our families? To read, write, be creative, to learn. About ourselves, and other mediums, Many of us spend our lives chasing time, never finding enough time to do the things we want to do.
Well now you have the gift of time.
What will you do with yours?
Will you waste it worrying about what could be and things you have no control over?
Or will you grow and become more resilient and confident in your abilities to thrive amidst adversity.
There is a lesson for all of us that will grow out of this. For each one of us it will be unique. Certainly many of us will realize what really matters in life, and it probably was not the things we had focused our lives on. In being forced to break our hold on all of these things and bring our attention back to our homes, our families, ourselves and our faith, we have been given the gift of gaining wisdom, the kind of wisdom that many carve out years of time to gain, but if we are resourceful and insightful we will gain in these few short weeks or months and emerge more wondrous than ever before.
What will you let this teach you?
